eDNA Sampling

Collected and filter water samples from the Kenai River to understand to greater detail the organisms present in this aquatic ecosystem.

Alaska Beluga Monitoring Partnership

Met with researchers, Sonia Kumar and Teresa Becher, to discuss beluga monitoring in the Cook Inlet, AK. Participated in beluga monitoring surveys for four days.

Sampling Carbon Sequestration of San Elijo Lagoon 

Assisted guest researchers to collect mud samples to determine the quantity of carbon sequestration occurring within the lagoon.

Phytoplankton Bloom Sampling

Met with researchers from Kachemak Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve to sample fo phytoplankton and algal blooms. Taught the importance of this testing and invasive species prevention.

Marine Mammal Skeletal Articulation

Taught by Lee "The Boneman" Post the methodolgy behind preparing museum quality skeletal articulations. Prepared bones of a Stejneger's Beaked whale, Steller Sea Lion and harbor porpoise.

Marine Mammal Occupational Endorsement Certificate

Learned marine mammal biology, anatomy and behavior. Surveyed and photographed humpback, gray and beluga whales, Steller sea lions, harbor seals, and Northern sea otters.

Alaska Sea Life Center Stranding Network

Responded to several live and dead sea otter strandings. Collected data from carcasses and hauled recently deceased sea otters to preparation for necropies or dissections.

Sandhill Crane Monitoring

Observed behavior of sandhill cranes preparing for migration and counted individuals in the group from afar in Beluga Slough, Homer, Alaska.

Sea Otter Necropsy

Preformed a sea otter necropsy and was trained by Dr. Kathy Burek of Alaska Veterinary Pathologies and Dr. Debbie Tobin Ph.D..
